Multiple small earthquakes this morning in the same area as the ongoing quake swarm NE of Whangarei. GeoNet pinpointed the magnitude 2.8 and 2.3 quakes around 20km NE of the main ongoing cluster. This brings the total number of quakes in this area to 115 since the swarm commenced on 26 December 2018.
Today earthquakes are interesting as they are along a fault line that runs just south of Poor Knights Islands. An earlier third earthquake occurred at this same location on 27 December 2021.
