A complex low pressure system in the Tasman with an associated upper level trough moved across the North island on Friday and Saturday 26th -27th June, producing multiple tornadoes over a 24 hour period. Tornadoes were reported in Mangawhai, Dairy Flat, East Tamaki and Tauranga during this period. Property and tree damage for these areas represented tornadoes on a scale of EF0 & EF1 but the Dairy Flat twister may have been a stronger EF2 twister with mature aged pine trees snapped at the their base.
