Strong M6.6 quake on the Kermadec Trench

A notable strong magnitude 6.6 shallow earthquake this morning at 1:44am on the Kermadec Trench, 720km North East of Auckland. The primary seismic wave arrived across the upper North Island 1 minute and 42 seconds after the rupture. No tsunami was generated. The last M6+ earthquake in this particular location was a M6.0 on 15 December 2011.
