Small Tasman earthquake south west of Auckland

Another interesting earthquake this afternoon. A small magnitude 2.0 just to the south-west of Auckland Volcanic Field in the Tasman. The location was pinpointed by GeoNet to a previously sleeping fault line extending from the Taranaki fault, 25km south-west of the Waikato River. A similar quake on 6 May occurred on the same fault registering a M 1.7. Before these 2 latest quakes, the only earthquake recorded by GeoNet on this particular fault line was a M 4.0 on 23 January 1956.
