Storm force winds blast the upper North Island

Vigourous south westerlies arrived around 3am this morning with 110 km/h + gusts being recorded in multiple locations. A peak gust of 154 km/h (42.8 metres per second) was recorded at Auckland council's Clevedon site, 145 km/h at Great Barrier Island and 139 km/h on the Awhitu Peninsula. Fallen trees and power outages have occurred in several areas across the upper North Island.
